Something Must Be Wrong With Me…

Posted in Fashion by Virgil Sparks on March 9, 2009

… because I am loving the new Vivienne Westwood collection for Fall ’09. Generally I feel like a collection by Viv is out of pure necessity. It often feels as though they just threw together some random cuts and prints that look like her style merely to have a runway show… and then there are others, (very few others) where it looks as though some thought, emotion, and talent have exuded from her and her team.

The collection was classic Westwood, but I feel, at her best. The clash of prints was tame, and the long triangle cut coats and jackets were superbly thoughtful. Not to mention the dash of dreaming fantasy she threw in with her tulle concoctions. For these things, I must admit that yes, she definitely has earned the place she’s created for herself in the world of fashion.

Kudos.

On My Radar: Kris Van Assche

Posted in Fashion by Virgil Sparks on March 5, 2009

Four seasons into his RTW line, Van Assche has caught my attention. After a brief stint in Menswear before starting his Womenswear line two years ago, he seems to be slowly, but surely, coming into his own.

The opening sequence of silk charmeuse and chiffon laden kaftans were quite chic, and wearable to boot. His color palette; mostly blacks and greys, was jazzed up with the exciting print or two, the marvelous jewelry and obi belts that were thrown into the mix.

Overall the feeling was soft, but edgy, and the majority of the pieces would definitely hold their own in any modern woman’s closet. His shows will be worth watching for me from now on… even despite the fact that Van Assche himself is easy on the eyes. 😉

Real Men Wear Lanvin…. Period.

Posted in Fashion by Virgil Sparks on February 2, 2009

Who knew so many layers could be SO sexy?

Obviously Lucas Ossendrijver was hip to the notion with his Fall ’09 menswear collection for Lanvin(LVN).

With the on point rich, jewel tone palette that has become a LVN signature, and the plush, light weight fabrics that layer seamlessly together to create an expensive yet undone look that will have all the girls, (well some of the girls, but mostly the gay boys) wiping their mouths when these men walk by.

The small skull caps and oversized, silk scarves are a definite must-have for any mans wardrobe next winter.

I for one, know what all my future new boyfriends will be wearing. I guess breaking up at the beginning of what is definitely one of fashions best years in a long time has its upsides. 😉
